Craft Beer Boom: The Numbers Behind the Industry’s Explosive Growth

Katie Jones - - Visual Capitalist

All movements start with rebellion, and the craft beer revolution is no different.

Born from the frustration of mass-produced beer made from cheap ingredients, entrepreneurs went head-to-head with global brewery giants to showcase local and independent craftsmanship.

Suddenly, drinking beer became less about the alcoholic content and more about the quality and experience. Craft beer allowed for constantly changing flavors, recipes, and stories. With sales accounting for 24% of U.S. beer market worth over $114 billion, the global craft beer movement has been historic.

Is Legal Marijuana Hurting Beer Sales Or Helping Them?

Mike Adams - - Forbes

The cannabis trade has tried to convince the public that legal weed is not only a creator of jobs and salvation's wing for local economies but that it is also an industry wrecking machine with the power to snuff out all of the competitors within the inebriation market. Its arch nemesis in this nail-biting mission to contribute to the unsobering of America is none other than the alcohol industry.

Women Represent Big Opportunity for Beer Industry

Justin Kendall - - Brewbound

Beer companies haven’t effectively marketed to women, and they’re leaving a lot of opportunity for increased sales on the table, according to Bridget Brennan, CEO of Chicago-based consulting group the Female Factor.

“We can’t underestimate that there has been, from a beer industry standpoint, a 150-year head start in marketing the product to guys as a guy’s product,” she told industry stakeholders who attended the Beer Institute’s annual meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this week.

“We are still in the early days of marketing the product to women, and there is nothing but runway,” she added.

America's Gone Beer Mad: 100 Breweries Or More In Nearly Half Of U.S. States

Gary Stoller - - Forbes

The USA has gone beer crazy. More than 9,000 breweries are in the country, and more than half of U.S. states have at least 100 breweries within their borders, an analysis of the U.S. Treasury Department's most recent statistics reveals.

The statistics, as of March 31, clearly show the impact of the craft-beer explosion in recent years and how widespread the phenomenon is.

"Since 2013, the number of breweries has doubled in 34 states and tripled in nine," says Bart Watson, the chief economist of the Brewers Association trade group.
